When Charlotte married the wealthy widower Paul, it caused a ripple of gossip in their small lakeside town. They have a charmed life together, despite the cruel whispers about her humble past and his first marriage. But everything starts to unravel when she discovers a young woman’s body floating in the exact same spot where Paul’s first wife tragically drowned.
At first, it seems like a horrific coincidence, but the stranger in the lake is no stranger. Charlotte saw Paul talking to her the day before, even though Paul tells the police he’s never met the woman. His lie exposes cracks in their fragile new marriage, cracks Charlotte is determined to keep from breaking them in two.
As Charlotte uncovers dark mysteries about the man she married, she doesn’t know what to trust—her heart, which knows Paul to be a good man, or her growing suspicion that there’s something he’s hiding in the water.
Thriller is one of my absolute favorite genre, i love the thrill, the ” i can’t wait to know what’s happening” the fast events, the “keep-me-on-my-toes” feeling, these are the general symptoms that i get when i usually read a mystery, thriller, especially if it was a psychological thriller.
But
In this book it was a little bit different, there was this slow pace that the story took, like the writer took her time telling us what’s happening, which was definitely new to me, different than what i usually read so it took me a time to adjust to the different pace.
So the story is more like Charlotte’s life, more drama like, how she’s such an idealistic, she believes in black and white theory, no grey area, she was the misfit for so long in her town after marrying off a rich lad, who was a suspect in a murder.
So as you can see this screams drama, the looks, the gossip, etc, it was really fun to read.
We get to see how she’s managing after finding the body, and how she unravl new secrets everyday and get more suspicious of her hubby? ( which i kinda sympathized with?)
But overall, it got me itching that i need more action than small cues that falls into her lap one after another, youknow what i mean?
The Ending was SHOCKING, The last 20% which were absolutely THRILLERED, no doubt there.!
Never in a million years would i have expected this, which worked fine for me, i like the unexpected twist.
I just started this. Glad you liked the last few chapters
